Angrezi Medium E-Volunteering Drive

Number of Volunteers - 106

Number of children - 1000 Plus

Introducing to you our new project - "Angrezi Medium".
Angrezi Medium is an E-Volunteering drive to teach Spoken English to students from government/trust funded schools. ARCH Foundation has a huge network of children who are less priviledged than many. Today's children are tomorrow's leaders, so we feel that effective communication is a necessary skill which will not only help them succeed later in life but also build their confidence and lower their inhibitions. These students are very eager to learn English and thus, ARCH initiated Angrezi Medium linking volunteers all over the world with a group of students who are dedicated and committed to learn. Angrezi Medium was launched with a batch of 10 volunteers have now reached to more than 100 volunteers in a short span of 3 months. If you wish to volunteer for AM, register as a volunteer on - https://forms.gle/m1gA96YP1Hr9irnK8

My Planet-My Responsibility

My Planet-My Responsibility

Number of Volunteers - 26

 Locations – Greater Noida/Ankleshwar/Mumbai/Cuddalore

Volunteers from Covestro India participated in the poster making competitions on the theme “My Planet, My Responsibility” and enjoyed their time with the children while bringing out their creative sides during the event. 26 volunteers from 4 cities of Greater Noida, Ankleshwar, Navi Mumbai, and Cuddalore had participated in the event.

The idea behind ensuring that the volunteers from Covestro participate in the event was to understand how a child and a grown-up volunteer would imagine saving the planet as his/her responsibility. While a child drew posters out of the imagination, the volunteers drew out of experience and the confluence was a beautiful sight that gave hope of improvising upon our current experiences to make the future bright for our young generations to come.

This activity not only helped the students interact with people outside their schools but also helped the volunteers from different areas to come in close contact with the children and schools where the company was working. It gave them an opportunity to come out of the office and company setting to the world of children where a stress-free life is experienced. This experience helped the volunteers relax a bit and at the same time understand the importance of interacting with people apart from their company to experience happiness.

“Working with the smaller kids, it’s so fun that you just want to be here." - Volunteers

"Make it Better" is a volunteering initiative by ARCH where students from Government / aided schools are given time, attention, and opportunities by our enthusiastic volunteers that they may not otherwise receive.
The idea is to open a creative window to them. Such exposures help them know that there is a world beyond what they see and where they live.

A series of art and creative workshop was conducted by our volunteers in various Government schools focusing on innovative and interactive ways to engage children and help generate their interest in books and education at large. It was a two-way road where our volunteers also gained professional experience working with children, learned new skill sets, and made a positive difference in the lives of young children.

Science Around us

Science Around us

Number of Volunteers - 10 Samaritans

Hours Contributed - 30 Hours

 Locations – Vadodara

One of the ways we describe the study of science to small children is by saying we are “learning about the world and how it works.” Our Volunteers not only made these activities entertaining but also full of excitement for the students from middle school.

Another volunteering event entitled “Science Around Us” was organized at the Hedgevar Primary School, Sayajigunj school number 34 and Kelavnikar Gijubhai Badheja Primary School. The children in this activity were encouraged to click pictures of basic things and explain thereafter, the science behind the phenomena. This activity encouraged the children to explore basic things and understand how science affects the smallest of things in their daily lives. A total of 10 samaritans participated in the event, dedicating around 30 hours to engage into the activities.

Nature always wears the color of spirit" Salute to the spirit of hard work and love for nature shown by Volunteers cum employees @ L&T Technology Services

To foster volunteering activities, a tree plantation activity was conducted on 6th July 2019 at Sevasi High School
The tree planting program is a learning opportunity for students to get involved in the environment and conservation of our natural resources.

The volunteers along with the school students planted trees and after successful completion of planting all the saplings, cut a cake to celebrate the success. The idea was to immerse the concept of planting more trees in the minds of the children to save and protect the environment. Our volunteers not only planted the trees but also nurture the idea the role our young students can play in protecting the environment throughtheir personal involvement.  15 samaritans dedicated 3 hours each leading up to 45 hours in total for the cause of tree plantation drive. To foster togetherness and fun, the activity concluded with the students and volunteers playing garba.

Brighten-up a wall - A volunteering initiative

 Locations – Airoli-Mumbai

Kudos to the heart felt effort of the volunteers from Vivekanand Education Society's College of Architecture (VESCOA) - Mumbai who redefined a volunteering program in a fun filled activity with a purpose @ Mazidul English School where we are working in collaboration with Covestro (India) under Brighter World Lab project.

Colours of joy is what we would like to term our wall painting volunteering program. The reason being it did not confine to decorating a wall for better look – but it could really bring about the purpose for which it was desired for……………our enthusiastic volunteers painting their imagination while forcefully debating each others preference, co-ordinating all the pre requisites of the program from getting the colours, the brushes, the transportation to reach from different corners of Mumbai and finally executing the same beating the merciless summer heat of may and summing up all in the form of joy, laughter, fun and a proud satisfaction of a good job winning each heart.

Sometimes, in spite of having the best intentions at heart, employees are unable to devote time to volunteering. There are certain company policies that disallow employees to step out of office during working hours and most often they are unable to take time out of their busy schedules.  In such a situation ARCH creates interesting In-office volunteering opportunities to engage employees in volunteering so that everyone contributes to the company’s CSR goals and in turn to the culture of giving back to the society.

The In-office volunteering proposition is highly customised depending upon the company policy, level of employee involvement, availability and interest. This gives us the perfect opportunity to develop and design interesting and innovative initiatives that can be implemented within the four walls of a corporate office.

Some of our successful programs organized so far are
  1. One day With Us – Our volunteers, the employees of E-Tech Company, open their doors and hearts to the handicapped and specially-abled community for one day to give a slice of life in the corporate world. They engage the participants by taking them through the whole organizational structure, explaining the functioning of different departments, and defining the processes at work. Through such interactions volunteers share first-hand experience on the expectations and working of a corporate organization and motivate the specially-abled participants in chartering the future course of their life successfully. It also makes them empathetic to the cause of social equality.
  2. Training Workshops – Corporates encourage their employees to take up training in various aspects like self-grooming, etiquettes, business communication and time management in the office premises during office hours. ARCH has organized various such workshops with specially-abled and needy participants visiting corporate offices for meaningful skill building. We have conducted several trainings involving employees of Paul Meson Consulting, a BPO and Larsen & Tubro.
  3. Module Designing – ARCH uses the expertise of volunteer employees working in various departments of different firms to create training modules for science quizzes and soft skill workshops. We also engage employee volunteers in making worksheets and learning modules for different art and communication related projects that we undertake in government run and aided schools. Employees are more than happy to research and reach out to the needy by sparing time and expertise as per their convenience in a field of their interest.

In the current scenario of global competition, soft skills are fast becoming an indicator of development and growth in people. In spite of literacy being available to the differently-abled community belonging to the lower strata of the society it does not guarantee their professional success.

To enhance their opportunity to do well at work ‘soft skills training’ has been identified as the key factor. ARCH provides professional grooming and training in areas such as communication skills, e-mail etiquette, telephone etiquette, listening skills, team building and personal grooming to name a few.

ARCH works closely with corporates engaging in SBV to impart soft skill training to the needy. While the volunteers have to only conduct sessions, we take care of all the planning, participant registration, module building, co-ordination, venue management and post workshop activities.

We also conduct a sensitization workshop with employee volunteers to deal with the mind-set and challenges of training differently-abled participants.

Such an initiative helps the volunteers to tailor their program to suit the temperament of the special participants and make them more receptive to the module. Further, it evokes a sense of satisfaction amongst the employee volunteers to take up a worthy cause in the future as well.

  3. With an aim to promote and facilitate literacy in the under privileged strata of society, ARCH planned a skill-based volunteering initiative where employees of a technology and infrastructure development based company participate every year in school kit donation drive.

At ARCH we promoted SBV amongst these employees in an engaging and interesting way. We first identified their skills, areas of volunteering interest, time availability and then assigned their respective roles and responsibilities in the project.

We then shortlisted the beneficiary schools within the set parameters laid by us. The company volunteers are a part of this screening process. Thereafter, we engaged in sensitising the employees towards this project and encouraged them to donate money towards the school kits. This was done by setting up an interactive donation kiosk at the office premises.

From the money collection we sourced and purchased good quality school kits including a school bag and stationary items. The employee volunteers packed the school kit, with books and stationary together into school bags. Finally, on the designated day we organised the distribution of these school kits where the company volunteers personally interacted and handed over the kits to the underprivileged students of Government aided schools.
